We create award-winning original content, produce the biggest live sporting events and provide free access to news and the arts.We work on the Global Streaming Platform supporting various video-on-demand products including Sky Showtime, Peacock, and Showmax.The Sky Tech Hub in Prague consists of around 100 people and will continue to grow. These are mostly developers, video streaming enthusiasts and experts, with extensive experience across markets, technologies, and products working on the Global Streaming Platform. We work closely with our colleagues in the UK, Portugal, and the United States.What role will you play? As our Engineering Manager, you will join the Content Delivery Engineering team, reporting into the Global Video Engineering, an organization distributed across NBCUniversal and Sky. The role is based in Prague, Czechia and is focused on leading and building a local team of engineers providing design, operation, and delivery for our UK, EU, and Africa-based streaming products - SkyShowtime, Showmax, and Now/Wow.The role requires daily collaboration with our colleagues and vendors primarily across the US, UK, and beyond – fluent spoken and written English is a must.The Content Delivery Engineering team’s expertise is focused on the web-scale use of Content Delivery Networks, performance telemetry, analytics, selection and interfacing with content origins, dynamic ad insertion, and player technologies. Our primary aim is to provide exceptional VOD and live sports experiences to our audiences in the tens of millions across three continents.What You'll Do:Hire, build and lead a team of CDN, software, and reliability engineers, to design, configure, operate and maintain systems, software, and managed services to our subscribers.Working with the full support of the wider team, based in the US and UK while the Czech team build is in progress, deploy your engineering skills with a hands-on approach to the challenges of designing and maintaining OTT streaming workflows across two continents.Achieve effective resource management, user story mapping, sprint planning, review and retrospective meetings for the local team + associated resources across time zones as part of the design and delivery process, assisted by our project management team.Develop productive relationships with our 3rd party suppliers & partners and our internal teams across throughout the group that are critical to progress, bringing a predictive and consistent approach to our efforts.Enjoy the pressure and take pride in being the centre of attention with teams, senior & programme management, change, capacity planning, cyber and other pillars of the business - being able to provide cross-discipline situation/incident briefings and presenting progress to key stakeholders as needed.What skills do you need to play your role well? Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a relevant field is preferred.Demonstrable experience (2+ years) in an engineering leadership or coordination role.4+ years of experience in engineering roles with hands-on technical input.Operational knowledge of key internet technologies, e.g., TCP/IP, HTTP/S, and DNS protocols.A track record in delivering and maintaining web-facing services 24/7.An understanding of Content Delivery Networks, Streaming media delivery and OTT concepts for scaled Live and VOD content distribution is preferable.Effective use of SRE to achieve safe, consistent technology operations.A flair for communicating in spoken and written English, to a wide variety of nationalities.Willingness to travel to the USA and Europe for work-related activities.Proven track record with providing 24/7 on-call support via rota.What can you expect in return?
